400 years of history

The Clos de Guignes estate in Tavers (45) is part of the history of the Loire Valley.

The large long-house where we live was for many a year a small wine-grower’s farmhouse. The patch of vineyard that welcomes visitors opens up to a large freely accessed landscaped garden full of hidden corners… and chickens. The cottages are located in one of the outbuildings of the house where we live.

Clos de Guignes is a quiet and relaxing place with a heated swimming pool and a hot tub not far from the pergola. Weather permitting, the shack by the river's edge is a great place to relax and early morning there is every chance of seeing deer in the undergrowth or pheasants strutting their way around.

17TH CENTURY

400 years of history

From the 17th century, monks from the diocese of Meung-sur-Loire produced wine for royal occasions, a particular favorite with king Louis XIII (crowned in Reims in 1610).

Our arrival

This was the year when our family moved to the Clos de Guignes and initially shared the buildings with the former owner, an elderly person well read in the site’s history, one that we love to continue to share with our guests. Cold water, leaking water, fallow lands… We very quickly began to develop our particular plot to give new life to this emblematic location, left untended in the hands of mother nature.

Refurbishing

10 years after our arrival we decided to settle here for good. We had so many projects for the Clos de Guignes, but nothing would have been possible with a leaky building taking in water. So the roofing and windows were restored as new.

Pinot Noir cottage

In 2013 this former lean-to was transformed into our first cottage, the Pinot Noir.

2017

Gris Meunier cottage

This one-time stable which had been abandoned was refurbished as a brand new country cottage. Inside you will see what used to be a retained feeder for horses. Today it is all part of the decoration.
